Students from Years 7 to 10 take part in an annual watersports day at Manly Beach, with the support of the Russell Coutts Sailing Foundation and SUPShed.
Students get to experience stand-up paddle boarding, windsurfing and sailing in a range of dinghies, and Hobie Cats – small sailing catamarans.
In addition to fun watersports, students were also involved in scavenger hunts and looking at the impact of micro plastics. With support from our Year 12 Marine Studies students, the junior students undertook activities to pick up these tiny components from the beach and discuss the longevity of these materials in the ocean environment.
We are so lucky to have all this just minutes away from the school, in the beautiful environment of the Hibiscus Coast.
Watersports Day was full of new experiences and fun. I enjoyed the windsurfing as well as hanging out on the beach with my friends.

Watersports Day was amazing. It was a beautiful day and we couldn’t have had better weather. We did a range of activities from sailing to windsurfing to paddle-boarding.

At Manly beach we went sailing in Hobie Cats which was really cool, especially as one team capsized. We also did beach conservation which was fun, but also shocking because of how much plastic is in the sea.
